Mitch was born on February 24th, 1968 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He began his stand up career doing up mic runs in Florida in 1989. In 1991 he moved to Seattle, where his popularity increased. However, he still had trouble getting good material, and he also suffered from stage fright. This would affect him throughout his entire life. Occasionally he would do shows with his eyes closed, even incorporating that into his jokes. He married Canadian comedian Lynn Shawcroft on February 25th, 1999.
He soon became a regular on The Late Show with David Letterman, and also got a special with Comedy Central. With his looks, his laid back attitude, his addiction to drugs and his background in Seattle, he was occaisonally called "The Kurt Cobain of Comedy." Mitch had a unique style of comedy. His pronounciations, his abrupt punchlines, and confident-but-shy stage attitude made him a real show to remember for the audience.
